ART + DESIGN
BUG LIFE
I find an immense fascination in the detail of bugs – lines, shapes, colours and tension. I liken it to the detail that one needs to consider in the design and installation of any interior space.
Each one of these elements plays an important role in design and result in a beautiful illustration in art. it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

NIGHT + DAY
A key skill of an interior designer is the ability to look at a space, sometimes empty rooms, other times construction carcasses of a spaces and imagine what they can be. See in the imagination what the potential and to a large degree, what the finished space would look like. The same is true for an artist. Sometimes you are looking at a blank page, board, canvas, or in this case a raw ceramic plate.
A friend of mine thought it would be a good idea for a group of us to book a table at a nearby establishment that offers a wonderful service where you book a table in this beautiful industrial space to enjoy a delicious lunch and paint ceramics. I am not a potter or ceramicist at all, but as always, a means to express my creativity always goes down well with me.
After ambling through the seemingly endless rows of available raw pieces, I selected a 25cm round plate – nothing special, just a plate. When sitting down in front of this plate this image of coming out of the dark of night to meet all the exciting new events and experiences of the new day represented by the detail of the circles and other patterns. But it works in a 24-hour cycle – represented by the face of a clock – just like the plate.

BUTTERFLIES
Lines, colour shapes – the bases for all interior design! But also, in nature. The softness created by the layering of the multiple lines in these watercolors can be likened to the softness created by layering in soft furnishings in an interior setting. scatters, throws and other décor items soften the rigidity and sturdiness of the horizontal and vertical architectural lines of a space.

BREEZE
This piece was a labour of love and patience. A charcoal reduction technique on mulberry paper. A snapshot of a lady in pensive thought with a light breeze blowing over her.
Black and white, the most extreme neutrals, can be used together to create a calming and relaxing state, in art and in an interior space – the specialist ability of an interior designer. it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

FLEURS D’AFRIQUE
I love the tactility of Lino prints. First sketching it out, transferring the sketches to the Lino and then carving them out [very carefully mind you], and then committing to the final print. Much the same in the interior design process – initial idea, rough sketches, final layouts and then the final build or installation.
This image is an illustration of the beautiful synergy of different cultures that exist in and make South Africa beautiful.
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
